Furniture Music
December 09 2014

#FeralChilde Phantom Shell available at @legion_shop in SF. The print is called #FurnitureMusic after a composition by #ErikSatie. We cut shapes in vellum, dropped them onto a painted backdrop and photographed the composition with shadows and brushstrokes. Incidentally today is a special day for both of us: Alice's wedding anniversary and Moriah's daughter's birthday. Oh, and Furniture Music was Alice's wedding processional music. #regram #printspiration #thestoryofus

Trunkshow at Peper & Parlor
November 21 2012

Well, hello Hoboken! A trunkshow at Peper & Parlor Sat 11/24

Peper & Parlor is a charming boutique on Hoboken's cutest thoroughfare, Washington St.
For you New Yorkers, it's an easy 10 minute bus ride from Port Authority and the bus stops right in front of the shop.

Peper Apparel & Parlor Shoes
938 Washington St. @ 10th St.
Hoboken, NJ
201-795-9447

Feral Childe is delighted to present a selection of Fall 2012 pieces for your shopping pleasure at Peper.
Come by from 11am-6pm for bubbly, treats, and special discounts!

From across the pond, we were very excited to receive our copy of
The Pattern Making Primer - All you need to know about designing, adapting and customizing sewing patterns

Last year, authors Jo Barnfield and Andrew Richards interviewed Feral Childe about our studio practice and how we grew our business. The interview and photographs of Feral Childe are featured in the professional development section of this great resource book for novice and experienced patternmakers alike. You can find "The Patternmaking Primer" at your local bookstore. Published by Rotovision and Barrons.

We're also mentioned in Elizabeth Cline's Overdressed: The Shockingly High Cost of Cheap Fashion (Penguin/Portfolio 2012). The author is a former fast-fashion junkie who cites Feral Childe among examples of domestic, ethically-minded brands discovered in her journey to more conscious clothing choices. She also interviews pioneering retailers such as Kaight (who has stocked Feral Childe from the start). It's a great read.

At Feral Childe we always love blog coverage, too. Recently highlighted on Honey Kennedy and Miss Moss (thanks to Myrtle's great lookbook shoot!). Check out the links here and here.

And, it's finally here! Our new website has launched!

Now you can shop at http://www.feralchilde.com
Visit us for a selection of Fall 2012 Infinite Librarian.
Please get in touch if you need help finding a particular style. We'll be updating the inventory throughout the season, so please check back often.
If you don't see an item on our site, we can help you locate the nearest retailer stocking your size and color.

FERAL CHILDE

PS If you go and see the newly released film Robot and Frank, you can catch Susan Sarandon wearing Feral Childe in a couple of scenes. She plays . . . a librarian. Kismet!

ABOUT THE NEW COLLECTION: INFINITE LIBRARIAN features new hand-drawn prints by Feral Childe. Styles are named for our literary inspirations and aspirations. Our Bookshelf print features items which actually exist in our everyday lives. A bi-coastal design team since 2006, we have combined our parallel physical realities into one imaginary shelf. We've compiled our favorite shapes and motifs from the limited-edition accessories of past collections and redrew them as ink sketches to make the current season's Husky print: die-hard Feral Childe fans might recognize these shadowy sketches as the brooches and scarves from Feral Childe collections of yesteryear: Husky Brooch (Canadian Alphabet FW07); Award Brooch (School Play FW09); Maple Leaf Brooch (Canadian Alphabet FW07); Owl Brooch (Canadian Alphabet FW07). The new collection references, among other things, the 10-plus years of friendship and artistic collaboration between Feral Childe. You can think of INFINITE LIBRARIAN as an archive, a compendium of the things we have created over the years and continue to revisit and revise.

At Feral Childe we strive for more sustainable production, using organic, sustainable, artisan-made, or repurposed fabrics; and manufacture everything in New York City.

FERAL CHILDE

ABOUT THE NEW COLLECTION: For Spring/Summer 2012: THE AQUAKNOTS, Feral Childe explores the ocean deep. This season’s original prints feature the Feral Childe duo as deep sea divers among plankton, exotic coral and aquatic horses. Reflecting our process-based fine arts background, these prints were developed by combining wildly varied image-making techniques: for example, the Flowerstripe print is a collage of shapes cut from bright, individually painted watercolors, while the Plankton print is a cyanotype made by exposing a 3D-painting to light sensitive fabric (the painting was made on various layers of clear acetate sheets combining paint and meticulous, intricately-cut plankton-like frosted Mylar shapes). We worked side by side on these prints, drawing on the same sheet of paper, as in the ball-point pen derived print called Wipeout, which shows several versions of Jacques Cousteau's famous diving saucer. We started this print while waiting for the shuttle to the airport, as we sat in the lobby of the hotel in Doha, Qatar where we were visiting artists at Virginia Commonwealth University last spring.

From our take on summer basics to signature statement pieces, this season’s Feral Childe styles emphasize easy summer ensembles. The Spring 12 collection is on point with trends such as printed shorts (Anemone Shorts), feminine baseball jackets (Cousteau Jacket), stripes, a bright palette of corals (hello Pantone Tangerine Tango!) -- yet always with our timeless and unique twist on construction details such as shaped pockets, folded collars, creative tucks and pleating, extended placket, and more. Spring 2012’s fabrics include fine Italian metallic cotton, glazed linen, organic cotton, Cupro, Hempcel, and silk. At Feral Childe we strive for more sustainable production, using organic, sustainable, artisan-made, or repurposed fabrics; and manufacture everything in New York City.

FW11 Trunkshow at Kaight

This Saturday 8/20 please join us at KAIGHT for the new Feral Childe Fall 2011 Collection ORCHESTRA!

Our Serpent Collar Blouse was recently named as one of NYmag.com's Best Bets! You can get it at Kaight. We'll have fall trunkshows at NEDA in Brooklyn and SALA in Berkeley, and more events are in the works. You can keep up with our latest happenings on our Facebook page.

Feral Childe Fall 2011 ORCHESTRA explores the world of sound through vivid textile prints derived from abstract musical scores and structural details as visual puns. The prints are composed by layering the ink drawings, watercolors, and paper collages that Alice and Moriah created side by side in their Brooklyn studio. The spirit of their combined images infuses each piece in the collection with life: the garments are fluid, ever-changing, never static; to be activated by the wearer. This season's wintry palette ranges from icy whites, blues and grays to the warmth of deep browns, reds, and oranges. Textured organic cotton, Tencel and hemp blends are combined with surprise elements such as pleated surplus nylon mesh, silk taffeta, printed organza and double georgette. Made in NYC.

ABOUT SPRING 2011: For Spring 2011, join Feral Chide on an expedition to Tarquinia, an ancient Roman city known for its Etruscan frescoes and mosaics. The silks, textured organic cotton knits, Hempcel linen and other fabrics are lasercut, looped and pleated into a wearable catalog of amphora, fish, birds and plant life in earthy and vibrant colors.
